Love Yourself First

Love who you are, embrace who you are. Love yourself. When you love yourself, people can kind of pick up on that: they can see confidence, they can see self-esteem, and naturally, people gravitate towards you. Lilly Singh

Loving yourself is the kindest and most wonderful gift you can give to yourself and to everyone else who you love and loves you. In order to have the most fulfilling life we can have, we must learn to love ourselves.

This means no criticizing yourself. Louise Hay suggests that we use the Mirror method to help us love ourselves and to root out those nagging self hatred thoughts. I have used this technique with success. All you do is to look into the mirror at yourself each morning and say, Your Name, I love you and accept you as you are now. For some this will be easier than others, some will have a  very hard time. But be persistent, loving yourself is a gift.

This also means being kind to yourself. You are a wonderful person with many gifts to share with the world. You are good enough for everyone and everything. You are amazing! Remember that you are one of a kind, there is no one on earth just like you!

Use positive affirmations to clear up the awful negative self talk we all give ourselves. When you think you cannot, turn it around and affirm that you can! Take me for instance, I have struggled with cigarette smoking for more than 20 years. It is a daily struggle for me to give up this drug. But I realize that I must because harming my body with nicotine and the other nasty chemicals are negating all the good things I do for myself. So I forgive myself when I “fall off the wagon”. I try not to berate myself, as I am a daily work in progress!

Be grateful. Simple, yet so profound. Practicing gratitude helps us to see all the good things in our lives, and not just the bad. We can all get stuck in what I like to call “not being able to see the forest for the trees”. When we can only see problems, we forget that there is more to life than just this or that. Sometimes I can get really overwhelmed with my chronic illness, but stepping back and being grateful just to be alive helps!

These are just a few tips! Let your light shine for all the world and for you!
